In collaboration with the Lass O’Gowrie, on Monday 18th Nov, we are holding a screening of the 60’s British cult classic by director Lindsay Anderson, “This Sporting Life” starring William Hartnell as part of the Lass O’Gowrie’s Doctor Who Festival celebrating 50 years of the Doctor.
Those in the know will know well that Hartnell is most well-known for his role as the first incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who, from 1963 to 1966. IT was following his role in This Sporting Life that the BBC noted his performance in the film and decided they wanted him and offerred him the title role as the very first Doctor Who.
See Hartnell in this early performance in the legendary now cult status movie which we are proud to show on 16mm film – YES! no DVD here, we screening a rare original 16mm print of the film and we’ll be dusting down the old projector getting ready for the show. We’ll even be adding a 1963 Pathe Newsreel for the screening as supporting programme – just like the good ole days.
Screening takes place at the Lass O’Gowrie at 8.00pm. It’s FREE Admission, just turn up after 7.30, get yours bears in and head up stairs ready for the screening at 8pm. For full details see the Facebook event page here.
