KINOFILM 19, European Short Film Festival 10th & 13-18th May 2024

GREAT NEWS, AFTER A BREAK OF TWO YEARS KINO IS MAKING A WELCOME RETURN WITH A SPECIAL EUROPEAN MINI SHORT FILM FESTIVAL IN MAY, FROM THE 10TH & 13TH – 19TH MAY 2024. THE FESTIVAL WILL TAKE PLACE IN MANCHESTER AT MINI CINI, DUCIE STREET WAREHOUSE AND THE INSTITUTO CERVANTES ON DEANSGATE.

Welcome to this special edition of KINOFILM, MANCHESTER EUROPEAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL.

After a two year break we are pleased to be making a return by presenting a flash mini festival, focusing on British and European Short films only for the week long event. We are selecting a range of short films from across the UK and Western Europe and the main programmes will be British Shorts, Northwest shorts, with special European programmes of Spanish Shorts, Italian Shorts and a Pan European programme selection. Included in the programme will be a range of short animations of all types and a special programme of films by women directors for our always popular focus on Women In Film.

For those filmmakers out there who have a short you want to chance it with, then you still have time to submit until the 16th April when submissions will close – you can submit now on Filmfreeway.

Kino are pleased to announce this special 19th edition of the Festival will take place on the 10th, and from the 13th – 18th MAY 2024. We hope you will join us, support and enjoy the festival.

The festival will will be smaller than previous festivals and take place over 7 days with one screening per day with director Q&A’s and will include two special FREE screenings of Spanish and Italian Shorts programmes at the Institute Cervantes. On Sat 18th we will have 4 programmes including the announcement of the Festival awards  Tickets for all screenings will be in demand and should be booked in advance via Eventbrite. The full programme will be announced at the end of the month following which we will have a flash sale of tickets over the first 10 days of May. The festival will open with a special Manchester and Salford film screening at the DPL at Salford University, Media City.

The festival main venue will be our latest partner venue, in the wonderful Mini-Cine at Ducie Street Warehouse, Piccadilly, Manchester. Screenings at DSW will take place on Mon 13th, Tues 14th, Wed 15th and Sat 18th May. The festival will include Spanish and Italian special programmes held at the Instituto Cervantes on Deansgate on Thur 16th and Fri 17th May. Tickets for these FREE screenings will be in demand and will be followed by wine reception where you can network and discuss the film you have enjoyed.  The Spanish Shorts programme will take place on the Thursday and the Italian Shorts programme will take place on Friday. Both these screenings are FREE presented in partnership with the Instituto Cervantes Manchester and Societa’ Dante Alighieri Manchester.

FESTIVAL TICKETS ON SALE

Ticket and passes for the festival will be available soon on our EventBrite page towards the end of the month – these are being added daily, please check back to the site for regular updates. Individual screening event tickets only are available, advance booking recommended. Full details of all the programmes will be announced towards the end of month here, our Facebook page and on our Eventbrite page, where you can also buy all tickets.

TICKET PRICES and ALL ACCESS PASSES

Individual Screening Tickets will be £5.00 in advance (plus booking fee) or £5 on the door (if available). Please note we do not have card facilities at the venue so make sure you have cash.

Free tickets for the screenings at the Cervantes will also be available on Eventbrite soon.

Festival Passes. Please note for this special mini festival and due to the limited capacity of the main venue there will be no instant all access festival passes this year, though if you’re a filmmaker with a film in the festival you will be eligible for a limited access pass giving you one free ticket for your screening and a free ticket for all other screenings at Mini Cini (subject to availability on the night). You will also be receive free tickets for screenings at Cervantes which can be booked in advance. Filmmaker Limited Access Festival Pass registration is available now here. Please note only one festival pass per film, priority goes to Director / Producer or Writer who is representing the film and applications must come from the director or producer. For participating filmmakers, if your film is in one of these programmes you will hear from us by the end of the month of April, if not then please contact us to confirm if your film is selected and in the Festival.
